Announcing: Project New Jersey!

After tossing this idea around for a couple years, I’ve finally launched a site I call “Project New Jersey“. Project New Jersey is a website aimed at reversing negative stereotypes of New Jersey through beautiful imagery and interesting written accounts from local photographers.

In a state as diverse as New Jersey, it’s almost impossible for one photographer, or even a small group of photographers, to capture everything, which is why we need your help. Project New Jersey is a collaboration, and we need submissions from EVERYONE. Amateurs, hobbyists, professionals…anyone. This is your chance to show off that beautiful, remote location that you really cherish. Head on over to www.projectnewjersey.com for more information.

I will be adding several images over the next few days, and after that, we will probably be adding one new image per week. Each post will include the artists name and URL, so it will also help drive some traffic to your site.

The After-party performance by The Brothers Grim Side show..
“This is your chance to see the worlds only 1920s tented touring Circus Side Show and Museum. If you like the HBO series, Carnivale then you will love the Brothers Grim Side Show. You saw them on Jay Leno as well as Discovery Channel, Ripleys Believe It or Not, X Files, The Learning Channel, Guinness Book of World Records, HDNet, National Geographic and many more.”

The Brothers Grim Sideshow brings you back to the 1920s-1930″s era side shows! This thrill packed stunt show will feature sword swallowing, the human block head, fire eating, western bullwhip feats, snake charmers, contortionists, and electrical death defying stunts. You’ll also witness feats of the mystic East, and monstrosities like the infamous Torture King, The Cyclops Boy, The Wolf People, The Half Man, The Bearded Lady and much more. The Bros. Grim Sideshow is a massive hit with audiences around the world, touching a chord in the hearts of Circus fans, historians, and art enthusiasts everywhere.”

Finding Your Shots

Hi all. I figured that I would post here, on the NJ Photobloggers page, to encourage some activity. I know it’s the repulsively hot dog days of summer, and that generally means that no one is interested in heading out with heavy camera equipment, but some of the NJ photogs I know are doing great work. Here’s one set, taken in NYC’s Potter’s Field, on Myspace (meh…) from Monmouth County photographer Tom Gilmour.

I’m always amazed at Tom’s work, first because he finds the most interesting places to shoot, and second because of his supple use of light. So, here’s my question to you folks: where do you go to find places to shoot? What are your research sources?

Welcome to New Jersey Photobloggers

After months of kicking around ideas, shooting off emails, gathering contacts, and making some new friends, I’m glad to officially launch the New Jersey division of the Photobloggers.org network.  This site will hopefully serve as a meeting place for New Jersey photographers to exchange shooting locations, discuss equipment, arrange get togethers, and make friends.  Please feel free to join the message board and take part in the discussion.

If you have a New Jersey based photoblog that is NOT listed in the blogroll on the right, and would like to have it included, drop me an email at justin@justingaynor.com and I will gladly add you.
